For the first twenty or so games of the season he sat on the bench.
Finally tonight Carey actually pitched for first time in an honest-to-God Division 1 game. He came into a tie game in the top of the 10th against UC Davis. He got three-up, three-down in the 10th and the 11th. He gave up a lead-off double in the top of 12th, then got two strike-outs before giving up a bloop single which, unfortunately, scored the runner from second, which turned out to be the winning run.
For you stats addicts: He threw 3 balls out of 27
pitches, got three strike-outs, no walks and only got to a 2 ball count once in 11 batters.
He's on cloud nine.
He's been told he'll never pitch at the next level since he was 12
years old, and yet he keeps doing it.
Dreams really do come true...
I'm so proud I'm ready to burst... not because he can pitch at this level -- but because he can be so patient and work so hard for something he wants.
One of Carey's dreams came true today, in small way:
Feb 20, 2003: "I would like to play on the Stanford University baseball team..."
Oct 14, 2007: Carey takes the mound at Stanford's Sunken Diamond in the fourth inning of the annual Alumni versus current students game.
What's the weirdest thing you've ever eaten?

Zebra. Barbecued. I do not recommend it. (While on a safari in Africa, and on a dare.)
Do you remember your first flight? Where did you go? Why?

San Francisco -> Omaha, Nebraska to visit my grandparents. I was 8. I don't remember the flight, but I remember that Nebraska was __________flat__________ for as far as the eye could see. Being from San Francisco, flat land was a new experience.
The chance to sail on an America's Cup boat in Auckland Harbor in New Zealand in July, 2005.
My wife Janice and son Carey got this gift for me. I've been an armchair sailor for many years (after having been a very active sailor as a kid). I've been following the America's Cup seriously since I was 8 -- it always appealed to me as as the ultimate blend of sailing technology and and sailing skill.
The boat I was on started as a French boat, but wasn't finished in time. It was purchased by a Japanese team and used as a trial horse. Later it was sold to a small business that now takes individuals and groups for day trips.
Thank you for the gift, guys. It was the best ever.
